MATCH PREVIEW- Monday 26th August 2024

Zander Shayler25 Aug 2024 - 16:50

Bank Holiday action sees Kimberley Miners Welfare visit Coronation Park.

A dominant display and impressive result at Boston Town has had the whole league talking. Joint boss Daryll Thomas recognises the importance on not getting carried away with the Boston result and is fully focused on Kimberley, “We played Kimberley four times last season and although we won all four, Kimberley were in the game for 60 minutes and I’m sure tomorrow will be no different. With lots of change behind the scenes on and off the pitch Kimberley have made a good start to the season and will be confident coming into the game after progressing in the FA Vase yesterday.” A win fro Eastwood would extend their lead at the summit to three points with Lincoln United and Belper United set to play on Tuesday evening.

After a bright start Kimberley are now on a run of four league matches without a win. In front of nearly 300 people Kimberley made the perfect start to the season putting six past struggling Deeping Rangers but since then have lost a three goal lead to Gresley in a match that finished 3-3, shipped in four goals in back to back home matches against Newark Town and AFC Mansfield and last Saturday went down 3-2 to Belper United at Coronation Park. Only Harrowby United and bottom placed Wisbech Town have conceded more goals.

Player Watch: Despite training for most of pre-season with the Red Badgers Dan Tuck made the decision to stay at Kimberley in favour of more playing time, the tenacious central midfielder appeared more times for Kimberley than any other player last campaign. Lewis Weaver who made the summer switch from Heanor Town has got his season off to a flying start scoring in all but one of Kimberley’s league matches so far bagging eight goals in seven starts in all competitions.

Previous Meetings: As the gaffer mentioned the Red Badgers won all four meetings last season wins that knocked tomorrow’s visitors out of the FA Cup, County Cup and recorded the league double over them. Terry Atem scored both goals in the last game between the two sides that took place at Coronation Park, a ground that Kimberley have only one once in seven attempts, that game taking place in March 2020 in the final game of the first season that was ended by COVID-19.

Squad Update: Ball & Thomas could name an unchanged side for the first time since last August, with the only question mark being over whether Phil Watt can manage two games in three days after returning from injury against Boston Town yesterday afternoon. Donte McManamon-Fuller and Kamani Wilson could both return to the squad as the competition for places ramps up. Aaron O’Connor will be aiming to keep us his impressive record of scoring in every game of which he has started in this season.
