The Red Badgers ended a three games winless run with a hard fought victory at Sleaford Town on Saturday afternoon. ECFC trailed at the break but a second half double from Terry Hawkridge and a 15th goal of the season for Tyler Blake meant we returned to Coronation Park with all three points.
Last season’s beaten play off finalists Skegness Town have had a indifferent start to this season’s campaign. Despite finishing the season with one win from their final eleven matches, Town took the final play off position four points ahead of Eastwood. A shock 3-1 win over Lincoln United in the semi final followed before loosing out to Loughborough Students in the final. Role forward to this season and Skeg sit 12th in the division twenty-one points behind the Red Badgers.
Player Watch: Declan Johnson finished on twenty goals in just twenty-eight starts for Town last season with all his goals coming from open play. Former Sleaford Town Player Manager Tom Ward is another key player to keep an eye on, the towering central defender helped earn the sides fourth clean sheet on his home debut in a 2-0 win over Gresley.
Previous Meetings: In the six previous match ups with Skegness, Eastwood are yet to find a win taking one point from a possible eighteen available. That point came at the Vertigo Stadium last October after Aaron O’Connor had given us the lead from the penalty spot, Declan Johnson drew the hosts level fourteen minutes later, before Romaine Graham scored seven minutes from time what looked to be the winner. Until Declan Johnson smashed home his second deep into added time. It was more late drama in the reverse fixture at Coronation Park where a Kyle Tomlin double had cancelled out Town’s early dominance but a 93rd minute strike from Gary King gifted Skegness all three points.
Squad Update: The management duo have no fresh injury concerns going into the match but will be without key performer Lynden Joyce, who sits out the first of his three match suspension, Oliver Robinson is back though and available for selection. Marcus Marshall has had a set back on his return from a knee injury he picked up last November which will likely see him ruled out of action until at least January.
