Lincoln visit Coronation Park knowing that a win for them will mean they need just two points from a possible six in the final two games of the season to clinch the title. A win for the Red Badgers means wins over Gresley and Belper United would see Eastwood crowned champions, where a draw opens the title race up allowing Bourne Town back in to the fight. All to play for.
The visitors are fresh off the back of retaining the Lincolnshire County Cup following a 3-1 win over Bourne Town on Wednesday night, the win extended Lincoln’s unbeaten record to 20 matches. United’s last defeat in the league was at home against Hucknall Town back in November and on the road it is eight wins and two draws from the last ten for.
The Red Badgers returned to winning ways courtesy of a second half penalty from Aaron O’Connor. The skipper has now scored in his last two games taking his tally to 14 for the season.
Previous meetings: Saturday will be Lincoln’s second visit to Coronation Park this season with the two sides having already met in the FA Vase, Tyler Blake opened the scoring inside sixty seconds before Elliott Dye cancelled it out ten minutes later, only for Craig Westcarr to put the hosts back in front with twelve minutes on the clock. A tight and competitive affair ended with Evan Payne forcing a shot home in the 92nd minute to force penalties. Eastwood got off to the worst possible start when Alex Troke missed the opening penalty of the shoot-out, Wilson did save Lincoln’s second penalty but saves from Steggles against O Robinson and Blake saw Lincoln progress 3-2. Alex Troke scored the only goal of the game in the reverse fixture in September, the game was the first of two Lincoln have failed to score in this season out of a possible 47. In the League the Red Badgers are unbeaten against United, one draw and two wins is a record we would love to keep in tact this Saturday afternoon.
Player Watch: Too many to name as Lincoln hold top position for a reason boasting an incredible squad from back to front. In goal Jack Steggles has been phenomenal between the sticks, keeping eleven clean sheets and has been on the winning end of four penalty shoot outs this season including the FA Vase win over ourselves in November. The forward line has seen, Jack Mcmenemy, Owen Vincent and Elliott Dye net 42 goals between them. Impressively Lincoln have had 19 different scorers this campaign.
Squad Update: As we end a season where we have had little injury problems, we enter the final three games with plenty of concerns. We can confirm that Ricky Starbuck has left the club, Marcus Marshall won’t be returning this season and the same can be said for Jake Wright who both sit out the season with injuries. Will Robinson looks to recover from an injury that saw him miss the win at Newark last time out. Elliott, Oliver Robinson, Blake, O’Connor and Hollis are hoping to shake off knocks that saw them missing from training this week, Callum Chettle is also a doubt. Positive news sees Lavell White make a potential return this weekend allowing Declan Dunn to return to his more familiar midfield position. Teenagers Commons, Woodward and Flynn are all likely to be included.
Lincoln are travelling in numbers so we need all the support we can get, so lets pack out Coronation Park and help the lads get the win.
