Eastwood CFC would like to thank the fans for their continued support for the 2016/17 campaign. Last year saw the opening of our 3G Facility which now hosts 14 teams from U9 to our senior teams.
A breakdown of the season:
Our season got off to a shaky start with a 2-1 loss to Sherwood Colliery and the month finished with one win out of four possible games.
September got off to a better start winning four out of the five games including a win against two time league winners Selston. The only loss in the month was at the hands of Hucknall Town with a 5-0 loss in the FA Vase.
A 3-1 defeat in the middle of October against Sherwood Colliery was followed by ten wins out of the next twelve games which saw us up until the Christmas break.
The new year saw poor form, only taking 5 points from the possible 12.
February saw Eastwood CFC knocked out of the quarter-final of both the Floodlit Cup and the CMFL League Cup against Hucknall Town, Eastwood CFC returned their focus to the league and won the remaining six games including a win against South Normanton with a 94th minute header from Harry Allen. Currently Eastwood CFC stand 5 points clear at the top of the league and await their fate with other teams still having games remaining.
Eastwood CFC would like to extend their gratitude towards the supporters for this seasons support, it has been phenomenal and most away games we have managed to outnumber the home support! We hope to gain promotion to Step 6 and return the Red Badgers to their long awaited glory.
Jamie Bennett, Eastwood CFC Chairman said “I would like to give a massive thanks to everyone involved with our Senior set up this year. Our First Team have done exceptionally well this season, supported by our Reserve Team and their staff. Whatever league we end up in next season as a club we will be doing everything in our power to push the first team forward to the next level. We are working hard behind the scenes to establish commercial and sponsorship revenue to support the efforts of our management team next season. The club are moving in the right direction and we hope that people can support us and make the next few years an enjoyable experience for everyone involved at the club."
As previously mentioned Dave Marlow will be officially joining the First Team management setup starting next season. Dave will be known locally around the area for his work with Linby Colliery and will bring a wealth of experience to the club and has an extensive player network that will help our club progress further up the non-league football pyramid. Even if Eastwood CFC do not gain promotion to Step 6, the club will be creating revenue to fund the First Team squad to make sure that next season we advance to the next league.
Off the pitch The Venue is constantly growing and we are proud to be hosting at least two functions every week! Next week we will be hosting our latest sportsman’s evening with Razor “Neil” Ruddock, comedian and food with a sellout crowd of 180 people. Our first day of our Easter Soccer Camp was a success with 52 kids in attendance, places are still available for children aged between 5-12 - for more information visit our website. We will also be hosting the Joshua vs Klitschko fight on 28th April live in our pitchside lounge which is priced at £5.00 a ticket, which includes Pie, Chips and Gravy. On Saturday 20th of May Eastwood CFC will be hosting our First Team Presentation night starting at 1pm.
Brian Willows, Eastwood CFC Director said “As ever, we thank you for all your support this season we will be working hard in the close season (particularly around commercial and sponsorship activity) to bring success next season. I would also like to remind you of our next community event which is a family disco with a easter bonnet parade and games for kids which takes place on Sunday 16th April from 1pm. We are also involved with many charities a number of which will be holding fundraising events in our Erewash suite and also throughout June and July charity games will be taking place on our 3G surface. I would like to thank all our customers and staff for their continued support in making The Venue such a great success"
Once again we would like to thank the fans for this seasons support, we hoped you have enjoyed it as much as we have!
